WEEK 1: Vocabulary (The Alphabet, Greetings, and Classroom Language) David and Jocelyn

My Self-Assessment!

What i like from the class:

I consider that my attitude was good for kids due to that they were engage in the activities even though we did not use real material only slides, i think is a point in our favour, the other thing is the energy our energy was really authentic, i think we were just being ourselves presenting the class and that was excellent because, we did not have to act being another person. the slides i consider were well design, I took my time to prepare them and they work well during the class. our tone of voice was good because children could understand some words even though they are beginners they were really interested in the class. In spite, it was our first class we did it well. Now it is time to be focused in the upcoming classes and try to learn as much as we can from our mistakes and from the other groups.

Things I did not dislike:
I interfered in the presentation of Abigail and we were teaching at the same time, it was kind of confusing for children to follow or pay attention only in one teacher because we both were talking at some points in the same moment, i think that some activities would have been done in a more interactive way where students could be stand up and in movement instead of being sat in the whole class. it was not something good because as we all know children get boring easily and faster than teenagers or adults. I think that we have to be really careful with this in the upcoming classes. The last thing a can remember was the materials we did not use physical materials only the ones we use to make them work in the practices.

Things to improve:

Well at the beginning we start the class with the delaying of the lack of students. I got clear in my mind that I need to improve more and that is going to happen only practicing more time. I need to make more mistakes, but we have to clarify what a mistake is. The most of us think that making mistakes is the worst ever and it is not. The mistakes give us lessons, the experience of something new, something that we have to remember not to do the next time when trying again. The beginning of the class was not too bad, we did not ask them to stand up and I know that the warm up had to be more exciting, warm ups are ice breaker and to make a background. I will learn from this mistake. The interaction with the class has to be more dynamic, my enthusiasm perhaps was good bad if you got one teacher excited, and the lesson is not enough amusing; it does not matter the energy of teacher unless the teacher improvise something different, but that is not the objective. Improvising all the time is not the solution though if students learn, we are doing the greatest part of our job!

In conclusion:
I know that I could completely finish the production; I learnt that I got to have a second plan all the time, and this is for all of us. We cannot predict the issues that can turn up in the moment of teaching, but being prepare for something unexpected is going to be another part of our job. Having a plan B can solve our problems. We made many mistakes but will learn from them. I took my notes and now, I know which are the things; I do not have to do next time what i will do for next class is not to interfere in my partner performance, prepare physical materials and being as happy and energetic as i was in the first .

  1. Hello David.
First of all, it is important to mention that it was very brave from both of you to be the first to present. We know that being at the front it's not easy specially if it is the first time doing it. It is good to read that you are aware of your mistakes, and as you say mistakes give us a lesson to remember maybe forever. But at the end, despite of all the inconvenient you had, the class was good because there were many aspects that I liked such as, good tone of voice, the way you acted with the students and how you tried to make children feel comfortable inside the classroom. I think that they got familiar with you; they even called you by your name which I think that it is something good. I see in you many characteristics that teachers need to have. One of them is the attitude. The enthusiasm that you project to students make them feel motivated while they learn. In a nutshell, let me tell you that you are on the right path.

  2. Hello David!
I know that it is difficult to start in something perhaps we feel nervous in almost every situation, however we can learn from our mistakes. I think that the first experience is really good. I mean we need to improve constantly, and we need to have a second plan (plan B until Z if is possible) because we do not know when the situations are going to happen, the same thing happened to me. But you did a quite interesting job, with the usage of the projector and board. Jocelyn and you kept the students attention, and that was good because we know that children attention is shorter than adults. It means it is difficult to catch it. Also we need to be careful in what way we are going to motive our students I liked the part you said that improvisation is not the solution, and it is real we should be ready.

  3. Hello David ! I think the first day is never easy, and more when the time is not enough to fully develop the activities from now on the experience that remains is to have a plan b in case of another unexpected event to have been the first time it was not bad , It is good to learn from our mistakes, I agree that sometimes improvising a little saves us, but we must also prepare very well to give a good class .I think that what you learned from this experience will help you for the future, you know that you're a good teacher, good luck for the next one.

  4. Hi! David
To be the first group is dificult because you have to breik the ice, and you have to motivate that children still going to classes.
I really liked that you and jocelin developed the class in easy way; so you were modeling all the timé to children understand, and the activities and games were appropiated to clarify the topic.
